I have used TID before and found there webste easy to use and they covered everything that I needed for a my trip at a reasonable price. I just want good cover for a fare price. TID offer this. Very fortunately I have not yet had to claim.

Sandra | 27/01/2012 9:41:17 PM
I have always used the same travel insurance company. I was planning to travel to Thailand for 8days so I contacted them for a quote. I advised them that I would be 19weeks pregnant at the time of travel. They provided me with a quote which was more than I had previously paid for 6weeks in Sth America so I set about looking for a comparison quote. A friend recommended TID. Even with my "pre-existing medical condition" the quote came in at 50% less. I was impressed and will use TID for future travel

Noeleen Lechner | 20/01/2012 2:58:45 PM
I dont get insurance anywhere else. I have used them the past 5 times I have travelled. Well priced. Good coverage. Such and easy process

Halina | 12/01/2012 9:14:39 PM
I have used TID three times for my children and have found the prices very reasonable, the policies easy to chose and the support excellent. When my 16 year old daughter was on exchange and got sick TID were fantastic with their advice and support.

Janice Sullivan | 11/12/2011 10:11:29 AM
I have used TID on several occacions, three times as a normal policy and I am now onto my secdond year using the twelve month policy. Their rates are better than any I have researched and the prompt service I received when making a claim was excellent.I have recommended them to many of my friends as well as people I have met on my travels.

John | 3/12/2011 4:54:00 PM
I found the price from TID with comparable coverage, cheaper than any other company and I will definitely use them again.

Linda | 30/11/2011 8:46:39 PM
After researching several insurance policies TID had everything i needed in a policy and it was quick and simple to organise. The best part was the price....

Robyn Gill | 19/11/2011 10:56:45 AM
TID is our first choice in Travel Insurance. We have used them at least 3 times now and would recommend them to anyone as the service is great and their rates are extremely comparable.

What really appealed to me, apart from the really competitive prices and the ease of generating a quote and buying a policy, was all the information they offer around travelling on the cheap. Such gems as "Travelling on the Cheap", "Sightseeing on a Shoestring" and my absolute favourite, "A Beginners Guide to Haggling" which features a You Tube clip of the famous Monty Python Life of Brian.

These guys have managed to deliver a really great value product in a relevant way. They've taken a boring product like insurance and made it fun. Plus its great that they have the backing of Lloyd's

have used CTI for the last 3 years, last trip had to claim on overnight medical & hospital expenses while in Bangkok, paid once we got back home & sorted out paperwork, also had to claim stolen wallet{pickpocket]in Kuala lumpur.Claimed online, sent police report & claim was promptly paid.We are using them again this year & highly recommend them but they don't cover pre existing conditions which is clearly stated on the policy.

Stephen | 9/11/2011 9:45:57 PM
I agree with Chris, it doesn't cover much. They should call it medical expenses travel insurance to avoid confusing travellers!

Alameda Taxi | 2/11/2011 11:17:42 PM

Great post… you’ve posted very informative article. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing with us

chris | 11/08/2011 8:42:14 AM
READ THEIR POLICY! Also known as the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) It covers barely anything.

Editor: It's hard to claim you didn't know what it covers since it's pretty clear on their web site. Additionally, while it might be 'cheap', medical expenses are unlimited, particularly if that is the main cover you are after.

Their prices are good, although this is achieved by focusing on the younger demographic and excluding all pre-exisiting medical conditions among other things.

It will be interesting to see where they take their brand and their service in the coming years. As noted, their web site is well laid out, fast and easy to use although the further along their purchase path you go the less intuitive it is. It isn't that there are any real errors but rather a lack of attention to detail that separates great sites from just good ones. However, their site is secure where it needs to be (at the point of transaction).

very quick response when i made a claim. Received everything to the agreed value. Was also the cheapest option. The base plan offers enough cover, but without any cost-adding frills. highly recommended

It's only spam if you choose it to be spam. Derek K has written something even longer. I don't see you deleting his comments. This site is for comments regarding travel insurance under written by Allianz Australia Limited. My comments are about ETI/Mondial the agent who acts on behalf of the underwriters of these Travel Insurance policies. If you don't like it, choose another underwriter

I have to thank you and your team at for the great job you have done on my medical emergency in east Java . I sustained an injury while in Plungkung national park accessible only by boat or a 12 hour 4x4 journey through dense tropical jungle. I dislocated my foot and broke my leg and with some vascular damage leaving me with potential blood clot issues which could of been life threatening .

As I did not have a credit card with me (all my id etc.being back in Bali) so I could not pay for the helicopter medi-vac and I could not endure the drive back or bumpy boat ride so your team did such a good job of organising my evacuation, transfer to the BIMC and care for me while waiting to get home. Also booking me on a early flight home with a connection from Melbourne to Sydney with someone at every turn to help me with baggage and immigration. What would of been a nightmare for me travelling alone with three surfboards two bags and a broken leg became totally stress free.

I would also like you to pass on my sincere appreciation to everyone at Garuda and especially the Qantas ground staff in Melbourne who were amazing and the medical team at the Bali International Medical Centre were exceptional with the facilities being A+ and staff caring for me like I was a member of there own family.

I have just been released from hospital after surgery to rebuild my leg with steel plates and screws, my journey now is one of rehabilitation and from what the medical staff have told me getting me out of Indonesia and into surgery quickly was the best option as they know of one case like mine where the patient died due to blood clots .

So please personally thank for me Robyn who helped on the phone in Java and Kevin who booked my flights while I was in the BIMC and keeping my wife updated in Australia and any one else behind the scene that literally could of saved my life. It is probably something that you all do on a day to day basis but for my wife & three children and I it was a good days work.

I have always taken travel insurance for granted , something just incase my luggage went missing and never really considered the importance of insuring for a medical evacuation , so I can whole heatedly recommend your company to anyone looking to be insured , and all ready all my friends and family want to know about SURESAVE because you sure saved me.

DB, NSW

Online Travel Insurance

Online travel insurance from Mondial Assistance Australia is another excellent example of what really shouldn't be possible in 2008: an actual insurer who is totally clueless about the economic value of design.

WHAT is that silly little swoosh sound meant to accomplish? The calls-to-action buttons are small and hard to identify, and even when you have a quote, it isn't explained or communicated clearly. Like most insurers they just resort to presenting a complex legal document as a PDF, leaving the poor customer to work out what they are and aren't covered for.

The service offered by Online Travel Insurance are no different to those offered on the Mondial Assistance Australia and World Care web sites.

Ouch travel insurance

Ouch is the online travel insurance offering from QBE insurance. Despite it's strange name, at first glance the web site appears well designed but as you go through the purchase path the text is tiny and like many other large insurers they appear to assume that the customer already knows and understand the complexities of travel insurance as they make little effort to communicate it.

Detailed Review

Like most large insurers, QBE have finally woken up to online e-commerce and are repackaging their existing products as another brand altogether that they can then offer direct to customers. Unfortunately however, these same insurers seem to know very little about online customer experience nor usability design.

While the design here is OK, the most important parts of the web site simply don't work. To give you specific examples, if you use an Apple computer (8% of people at last count) you are simply barred from entering the purchase path. And worse, even if you're on a PC you cannot get through the purchase path at all! (Following a litany of poor usbaility examples, the final step (at least the last one I could reach) results in an error. No matter what you enter!

I had a look at this site. The prices seem ok but I'm really unsure about the name. It's like calling a health insurance company " You'll probably die anyway". Given the recent global disasters, do you really want to have a brand name that makes you think of the worst? Not the best angle methinks.

Oh dear, where shall we start? Well, the move and re-size my browser which is really annoying, particularly since then won't allow me to put it back to what it was ... who do they think they are? Then, for those of you in the know, this site actually uses CSS (which is good), although you'd never guess from the design of the site (which is bad). This HAS to be the worst looking CSS implementation we have reviewed anywhere. Ever.

But we digress. Communication. Apart from a tiny font and a small navigation what is anyone supposed to make of 'Omega' in a navigation? Actually, this is a list of their emergency assistance numbers (which is good), but you'd never guess (which is bad). Why don't they simple call it 'Emergency information' or something?

The actual purchase path isn't too bad ... except that because they have the cheek to keep moving my browser window and everything is in a frame (bad move) and everything stretches to full width (which is very hard to read on a monitor 1200 pixels wide) ... it is very hard to get to the end.

But, if you do get there, the e-commerce is done quite well.

QBE Travel insurance sucks

Don't do it.

My infant daughter had an asthma attack while travelling overseas and needed hospital treatment overnight.

QBE refuse to pay a single cent because they consider that a "pre-existing condition" - even though she's not even 2 years old yet!

Choose a different insurer.

Josh Mitchelton | 1/04/2005 10:08:15 AM
What is wrong with this insurer ? Don't they care about their customers ? I had a straightforward claim for AU$85 (on a policy that cost me more than $200) and it took four months to resolve.

The central feature of this website is the policy finder and comparison tool, which is quite helpful and provides a simple mechanism to compare policies from a number of alternate insurers offering similar features.

Unfortunately, the site does not offer the opportunity to purchase the policy online. Instead, it requires the customer to fill in an online form, print it out and then fax it back to their offices in Canberra. When compared against the services offered by the insurer's listed on their site (e.g. Suresave.net) there appears to be no benefit to the customer to purchase policies through Travel Insurance on the net.

Underscoring the overall experience is a disorderly site structure and design that leaves the customer feeling confused by a series of inconsistent and circular paths on the site.
