Recommended by Lonely Planet , they offer travel insurance in over 150 countries, have no maximum duration and allow their customers to claim online.
Review
World Nomads has taken a different approach to other insurers. As their customers are typically away for longer periods, they have made the effort to put as much of their service online. If you go on holiday for 3 or 4 weeks, you might not care about online claims, but when you are away for perhaps 2 years, it is a real advantage. Very clever.
Having said that, the World Nomads user experience is still well and truly ahead of the pack (with one small exception from another category). The site is constantly evolving and with the caliber of their competition it looks like they’ll remain the market leaders for some time to come.

Standard
The level of cover in their standard product is a careful balance that tends towards medical and emergency repatriation, with a basic level of cover for personal belongings. Still, this is a good product if you are young and heading overseas on an extended trip and want travel insurance but not the expense.
World Nomads PLUS
This is a supplement to their standard product that allows you to increase the level of cover for personal items as long as you specify them. It is obviously designed for the generation that takes iPods, digital cameras and small laptops on their travels.

Great to have a travel insurance that you can sign up to and extend while overseas. Easy online service. Great coverage for my family and I. I will definitely rcommend to others

My wife had coverage and ran into complications with pregnancy while abroad. World Nomads covered all medical including a stay in the hospital, prescription drugs, and processed her claim fast upon having all the documentation. Great to deal with!! (photocopy all documentation for your own records) :)

Fantastic to find a travel insurance company that you can sign up with when already overseas. Also to be able to extend while overseas is great. I am on my 4th policy with WorldNomads. I have not needed to make a claim so cannot comment there. There online help is quick and efficient.

I have not had to make a claim yet I have been incredibly impressed and satisfied from all other aspects: online purchasing was a cinch, the wording is clear, the price is right. would definitely recommend to family and friends.

Contacted our insurance broker & travel agent. searching numerous internet insurance sites, fount Nomads were the best price for same policy. Saving hundreds of dollars

When you stipulate under 66 does that include aged 66 i.e. if I wish to travel on 23/8/08 and my birth date is 05/07/42, am I eligible to insure with World Nomads?

Have yet to make a claim so can't comment on service but having been with insure and go for years I was disappointed they wouldn't provide cover when already overseas... World nomads were able to offer this very useful facility when most uk insurers I contacted were unable to provide cover without flying home to the UK...!!

At 65 years old my wife and i are still keen travellers and backpackers but suddenly you don't want insure us. We are still very fit and healthy but getting insurance is a problem and we find this very dissapointing.

Whilst trying to add a laptop to the coverage - they only give $1000 as the maximum value. That's not very useful to me.That wouldn't cover replacement value of the same or similar quality.

Good stuff. Price was good but the thing that impressed me was the fact that you can add a donation to a charity program when you sign up. I'm from the country so to see a city company support Water Aid was exceptional. keep up the good work!

hi, perhaps you remember me?
You were following a claim of mine from earlier in the year ... well the good news is that it went through OK and I was reimbursed for the amount of the cd player + some cash for the cds.
I'm so impressed by the way you guys have handled everything from day one, I tell all of my friends who are jetting off about you and most take my sound advice and join the club. I'm jetting off to India in a few months and I know to look no further
